Bahrain Advances Sustainable Public Transport

Bahrain's Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications has reaffirmed its commitment to further developing the Kingdom's public transport system to enhance its efficiency, safety, and sustainability.

During a visit to the public bus depot, Fatima Abdulla Al Dhaen, Undersecretary for Land Transport and Post, reviewed operational readiness alongside the executive management of the Bahrain Public Transport Company.

The visit focused on daily operations, future development plans, and preparations for the transition to electric buses as part of Bahrain's strategy to build a more environmentally friendly and sustainable transport network.

Al Dhaen noted that the public transport network continues to attract growing numbers of passengers, reflecting its reliability and ability to maintain high service standards. She also reviewed the depot's readiness for electric bus operations, a key initiative supporting Bahrain's goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2060.

The ministry also highlighted plans to leverage the international expertise of the UK-based Mobico Group, the parent company of Bahrain Public Transport, to introduce advanced clean-energy vehicle technologies and implement global best practices in the electrification of bus depots, reinforcing the Kingdom's vision for a modern, efficient, and sustainable public transportation system.
