Justice reform gains momentum
- Total beneficiaries surpass 11,000 since programme launch
Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa, Director-General of the General Directorate for the Execution of Judgments and Alternative Sentences, announced that 207 convicted individuals recently had their custodial sentences replaced with alternative penalties. The decision was made in coordination with the Public Prosecution and approved by the judge responsible for sentence execution after a detailed review of each case ensured all legal conditions were met.
With this latest batch, the total number of beneficiaries under Bahrain’s alternative sentencing law has risen to 11,215 since its implementation.
Shaikh Khalid said the programme's expansion reflects His Majesty the King's directives to broaden the application of alternative penalties. He also reaffirmed that the government, led by the HRH Crown Prince and Prime Minister, continues to support and oversee the initiative.
He described the programme as one of Bahrain’s leading national justice initiatives, aligned with the Kingdom’s commitment to human rights and the development of a balanced, reform-oriented criminal justice system.
The official also praised the role of Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, noting that ongoing follow-up has strengthened implementation standards, ensuring transparency, discipline, and respect for human dignity.
He concluded that Bahrain’s evolving justice reforms reflect the country’s long-term vision to integrate modern penal policies with rehabilitation efforts, supporting social stability and enabling former offenders to rebuild their lives and contribute positively to society.
