Civil Defence Urges Motorists to Prioritise Safety

The General Directorate of Civil Defence has launched an awareness campaign targeting motorists to promote a culture of prevention and safety, raise awareness of vehicle safety measures, and reduce risks and accidents associated with vehicles.

Brigadier Pilot Ali Mohammed Al Qubaisi, Director General of the General Directorate of Civil Defence, said the campaign included advice and guidance on the importance of conducting regular vehicle inspections, ensuring the safety of tyres and essential systems, and instructions on the proper use of fire extinguishers.

He explained that the campaign also focused on how to respond to emergencies, particularly when smoke emerges from or a fire breaks out in a vehicle. Motorists are advised to stop in a safe location, switch off the engine, evacuate the vehicle immediately and call the emergency services on 999. A fire extinguisher may be used if the fire is minor and doing so is safe.

Al Qubaisi said the campaign forms part of the Civil Defence Directorate’s ongoing efforts to strengthen prevention, promote community partnership and spread safe practices that help protect lives and property.

He stressed that safety is a shared responsibility that begins with awareness and is reinforced through commitment.
