Former Ukrainian Defence Chief Fedorov Takes Adviser Role in Italy

Rome: Ukraine’s former Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has accepted a role as an innovation adviser to Italian Defence Minister Guido Crosetto, focusing on technological modernization and defense adaptation.

The 35-year-old former minister announced the appointment following a meeting with Crosetto in Rome during an international tour centered on digitalization and defense technology. In his new capacity, Fedorov will assist Italy in adopting advanced warfare systems particularly unmanned aerial vehicles, autonomous systems, and air defense infrastructure drawing on Ukraine's frontline technological experience.

Crosetto had initially extended the offer shortly after Fedorov’s dismissal from the Ukrainian cabinet in July, praising his track record in military innovation and defense procurement reform.

Fedorov’s press service confirmed that he will remain based in Kyiv and maintain his primary focus on domestic defense initiatives while advising the Italian ministry. 

Highlighting that Ukraine's battlefield experience could serve as the framework for a new European defense model, Fedorov stated that his goal is to help partner nations rapidly test and scale emerging defense technologies to address modern global security challenges.
