Request to question ministers rejected

The questioning of two ministers by the Council of Representatives in the background of the sudden gasoline price hike was rejected by the committee concerned in Parliament.

The questioning request was “not serious enough”, said a statement issued by the committee yesterday.

As reported earlier, around 30 MPs filed the request to question both Energy Minister Dr. Abdulhussain Mirza and Finance Minister Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa.

Head of the special committee that discussed the significance of the questioning, MP Abbas Al Madhi, said in a statement, “The three-member committee discussed the request during the past few days. The causes presented by the MPs consisted of many complexities and confusion.”

Al Madhi said the committee was subjective and accurate while discussing the request to ensure it’s compatible with the law and constitution.

He added that the results of the committee’s recommendations would be discussed before the council in the next weekly session tomorrow.

The committee consisted of Al Madhi and MPs Mohsen Al Bakry and Jalal Kadhem.

After the announcement, several MPs expressed their keenness to meet the requirements of citizens, who were impacted directly by the recent price hike decision.

PM visits Parliament today

The Council of Representatives announced yesterday that Prime Minister HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa would visit the parliament today to strengthen cooperation between both Executive and Legislative Authorities.
