A proposal to introduce a new qualification for kindergarten and nursery workers at University of Bahrain has won backing from Parliament’s Services Committee, as efforts continue to strengthen early childhood education in Bahrain.

The university said a Level 5 certificate would be more suitable than a traditional diploma for those entering the sector, particularly school-leavers seeking recognised training in childcare and classroom practice. According to the proposal, the programme will cover child development, play-based learning, activity planning and practical training inside approved kindergartens.

The university added that Mohammed Jaber Al Ansari College for Teachers, in coordination with the Ministry of Education, is preparing the course for launch in September 2026.

A Level 6 qualification is also planned for those seeking supervisory and management positions in early childhood education, creating a pathway from entry-level training to senior roles. The programme will be taught in Arabic and English, with Bahraini applicants receiving priority during admissions coordinated with the ministry.
