Manama: Bahrain’s Public Prosecution has completed investigations into two separate human trafficking cases and ordered the referral of the accused in both cases to the High Criminal Court, with trials set to begin later this month.
Attorney General and Head of the Human Trafficking Prosecution said the first case involved a victim who arrived in Bahrain to work as a domestic worker. Investigations revealed that the accused allegedly exploited the victim by forcing her to work under abusive conditions and unlawfully withholding part of her wages for several months without justification.
In the second case, the Public Prosecution received a report from the Anti-Human Trafficking Department at the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science. The investigation found that the accused allegedly exploited the victim and forced her to engage in illegal activities for financial gain while threatening her.
The Public Prosecution launched immediate investigations into both incidents, recording the victims’ statements and ordering their placement at the shelter operated by the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking.
Witness testimonies were also collected, and after gathering what prosecutors described as conclusive evidence, the defendants were ordered into custody pending trial.
Both cases have now been referred to the High Criminal Court, with hearings scheduled to take place this month.
