Electronic plates guide drivers during official convoys
General Directorate of Traffic has rolled out a new initiative aimed at strengthening road safety by equipping motorcycles escorting official convoys with advanced electronic license plate systems.
Brigadier Shaikh Abdulrahman bin Abdulwahab Al Khalifa, Director-General of the authority, said the move reflects ongoing efforts to prioritise public safety, describing traffic security as a fundamental pillar of community stability.
The newly introduced system features electronic displays mounted on escort motorcycles, designed to provide motorists with real-time instructions when official convoys pass. Officials say the technology will help improve driver awareness, regulate traffic movement, and reduce potential risks on the road.
Motorists have been encouraged to follow traffic regulations and respond promptly to the guidance displayed, with authorities stressing that cooperation and awareness remain essential for maintaining safe and smooth traffic flow.
The initiative also underscores the importance of shared responsibility among road users, alongside continued collaboration between institutions to enhance overall quality of life.
The Director-General commended the joint efforts of the Ministry of Interior and University of Bahrain in supporting the development and implementation of the project.
