Jobseekers registered on Bahrain’s national volunteering platform may soon receive priority consideration for employment under a new proposal linked to the “Bahrain is Well… Because You Are Its People” campaign.
The initiative also calls for issuing official certificates recognising volunteer contributions made during the current crisis following Iranian attacks.
The proposal, submitted by MPs Iman Shuwaiter, Mohammed Al Olaiwi, Abdulhakim Al Sheno, Abdulwahid Qarata and Mohsen Al Asboul, urges both government bodies and private companies to give precedence to unemployed volunteers, especially within the same fields where they previously served.
Lawmakers said the plan builds on lessons from Bahrain’s COVID-19 response, aiming to transform crisis volunteering into structured employment opportunities while formally acknowledging service carried out under pressure.
Under the proposal, records from the national volunteering platform would evaluate participants based on attendance, skills and performance in frontline roles. This information would then support hiring decisions.
