Parliament will discuss a proposal to establish a public park in Khalifa City during the upcoming session, as MPs call for more recreational spaces to serve residents and surrounding neighbourhoods.
The proposal, submitted by several MPs, has been reviewed by the Public Utilities and Environment Committee ahead of the parliamentary debate.
According to the proposal, the park would be developed in the Tenth District of the Southern Governorate to provide a dedicated recreational space for families and residents in Khalifa City and nearby areas.
Supporters of the initiative say the project would offer an important public space in a largely desert environment where green recreational areas remain limited. They noted that developing a public park could improve the urban landscape while offering residents a place for outdoor activities and community gatherings.
The proposed park would serve as a social and environmental addition to the area, providing walking paths, greenery and facilities designed to encourage healthier lifestyles.
MPs backing the proposal emphasised that public parks play an important role in enhancing quality of life by creating spaces where families and children can spend time outdoors in a safe and organised environment.
The committee reviewing the proposal noted that the project aligns with broader efforts to expand public facilities and support balanced urban development across residential areas.
During the upcoming Parliament session, MPs are expected to discuss the committee’s report before deciding whether to recommend that the government move forward with the project.
If approved, the initiative would add a new community facility aimed at strengthening recreational infrastructure in Khalifa City.
