Bahrain’s Minister of Works, Ibrahim bin Hassan Al Hawaj, announced that four sanitation projects have been completed in the Twelfth Constituency of the Northern Governorate, with a total cost of approximately BD 1,852,146. Meanwhile, three additional projects are currently under implementation at an estimated cost of BD 4,373,991, alongside other initiatives that are still in the tendering and procedural stages.
The minister revealed these details while responding to a parliamentary question submitted by MP Hanan Mohammed Ali Fardan regarding the Ministry of Works’ plans to implement infrastructure projects in the constituency.
Al Hawaj emphasized that the ministry places strong importance on carrying out development projects and delivering services within its jurisdiction to benefit both citizens and residents across all governorates of the Kingdom. He noted that several infrastructure development projects have already been completed, while others are currently being executed or are in the process of being tendered and awarded.
Regarding sanitation infrastructure, the minister stated that the ministry continues to expand the sewage network coverage in the Northern Governorate. Over recent years, a significant number of residential blocks in the governorate have been connected to the network, bringing the overall coverage rate to about 69%, while coverage within the Twelfth Constituency stands at around 53%.
He added that the ministry is working to connect the remaining developed properties to the sewage network according to a pre-established timeline, based on several criteria. These include the level of urban development in the area, the technical readiness for network construction, and the availability of coordination requirements with other service authorities.
Al Hawaj also highlighted the scope of work involved in sewage and stormwater drainage projects. These include the construction of pumping stations, inspection chambers, wastewater transmission lines for treatment, main and secondary sewer networks, and stormwater drainage systems, depending on the scale and requirements of each project.
The minister explained that the four completed projects in the sector cost approximately BD 1.85 million. One of these projects involved the construction of a sewage network in Al Malikiyah (Block 1032) to serve 46 properties, which was completed in November 2023 at a cost of BD 167,000.
