Parliament will discuss a proposal during the upcoming session that calls for a formal warning mechanism before suspending services on the Labour Market Regulatory Authority system.

The proposal, submitted by MP Khalid Buanaq, has been reviewed by the Services Committee, which prepared its report ahead of the parliamentary debate.

The initiative urges the government to direct the Labour Market Regulatory Authority to introduce a notification system that alerts employers before suspending their accounts due to violations.

Under the proposal, employers would receive an official warning and be granted a correction period of ten days to address the violation before the system is closed.

Supporters of the proposal say the measure would help prevent sudden disruptions to business operations, particularly for small and medium enterprises that rely heavily on the authority’s electronic system to manage labour-related procedures.

MPs backing the initiative noted that unexpected suspension of system access can create operational challenges for businesses, especially when employers are not given sufficient time to rectify administrative or regulatory issues.

The proposed warning mechanism aims to strike a balance between enforcing labour regulations and providing businesses with a reasonable opportunity to resolve violations before facing service suspension.

During the upcoming Parliament session, MPs are expected to review the committee’s report and discuss whether the proposal should be recommended to the government for implementation.

If approved, the proposal could lead to a procedural adjustment in how the authority handles compliance issues within its electronic system, while maintaining regulatory oversight of labour market practices.
