Marushchak misses gold by 1kg

Minasyan adds bronze as Bahrain end weightlifting campaign with double podium

Alina Marushchak came within a single kilogram of Asian Games gold yesterday as Bahrain collected two medals on the concluding day of weightlifting in Aichi-Nagoya.

Marushchak took silver in the women's 86kg competition after producing a combined total of 272kg.

The Bahraini lifted 124kg in the snatch before adding 148kg in the clean and jerk, finishing just one kilogram behind China's Wu Yan, who secured gold with 273kg. Iran's Mahsa Beheshty completed the podium on 259kg.

Later in the day, Gor Minasyan added bronze in the men's +110kg division.

The heavyweight recorded a 205kg snatch and 235kg clean and jerk for a total of 440kg.

Iran's Ali Davoudi claimed gold with 466kg, edging Iraq's Ali Ammar Yusur Rubaiawi, who took silver with 465kg.

Rubaiawi had earlier set a world record with a 219kg snatch, but Davoudi overturned the deficit in the clean and jerk to claim the title.

The two medals brought Bahrain's weightlifting campaign to a close, with Marushchak and Minasyan joining Ingrid Vanessa Segura Grueso, who won bronze in the women's 69kg earlier in the Games, on the podium.
