War is not only about weapons and conflict. It is also about fear, especially in the hearts of children. Even if they are not in direct danger, children can feel stress from the news, loud sounds, and the worried faces of adults around them. This is why protecting their hearts and minds is just as important as protecting their safety.
First, we should remind them that we live in Bahrain, a country with strong security and protection. Our government works hard to keep people safe, and there are systems in place to protect the nation. When children hear this clearly from their parents, they feel more secure and less afraid.
One mother shared with TDT her experience: “I tell my children that we are safe here in Bahrain, and when they hear the loud sounds, I hug them and explain that the government and security teams are taking care of everything. It calms them instantly.”
Second, control what children see and hear. Too much news can increase anxiety. Turn off the television when the news is disturbing. If children ask questions, answer them in simple and honest words. Do not ignore their fears, but avoid giving too many details.
Keeping daily routines is also important. Regular meal times, school work, play time, and bedtime help children feel that life is normal and stable.
Finally, give them hope. Spend time together as a family. Pray, speak positively, and remind them that difficult times do not last forever. With love, calmness, and reassurance, we can help our children feel safe even when the world outside feels uncertain.
