An investment company has been ordered by the High Civil Court to pay a building owner BD21,800 in unpaid rent, plus interest of 1 per cent a year from the due date until payment, after it fell behind on monthly rent for a property it leased in Hoora.
The court also ordered the company to pay the appropriate court costs and a contribution towards lawyers’ fees.
The dispute centres on a lease signed on 1 October 2024 for a three-year term, including two years described as mandatory.
The rent was set at BD12,000 a month.
The agreement gave the tenant a three-month grace period to carry out maintenance works and secure licences, with rent due to start on 1 January 2025.
Zuhair AbdulLatif, the lawyer acting for the landlord, said the contract required the tenant to insure the building and hand over 33 cheques covering the full term.
