Bahrain Urges Global Cooperation for Ethical Use of Artificial Intelligence

Shaikh Ahmed bin Isa Al Khalifa, Acting Director of the Communications Directorate at the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications, has emphasized the need for a global framework to ensure the ethical, sustainable, and responsible development of artificial intelligence.

He made the remarks while participating in the fifth General Assembly of the Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO), hosted by the State of Kuwait.

Shaikh Ahmed bin Isa noted that Bahrain is among the founding members of the organization, stressing that the initiatives launched by the DCO are gaining increasing importance amid rapid digital transformation, particularly in the expanding field of artificial intelligence.

Speaking to Al Ayam, he said Bahrain has consistently been at the forefront of technological and digital progress, adding that its presence at international platforms reflects its commitment to keeping pace with global digital shifts.

On addressing the challenges associated with artificial intelligence, including governance and regulatory pathways, Shaikh Ahmed bin Isa explained that AI is a rapidly evolving field with no single, final model capable of addressing all related challenges.

He underlined Bahrain’s proactive approach in ensuring that artificial intelligence serves the public interest and does not pose risks, pointing to the importance of cooperation with DCO member states, alongside coordination with other countries and international organizations. Such collaboration, he said, is essential to develop policies that promote the positive use of AI while ensuring its regulation and protection for the benefit of society.

He added that international cooperation represents a vital framework for confronting challenges linked to emerging technologies, ensuring that artificial intelligence contributes to development and community wellbeing. Joint efforts, he noted, remain the most effective path toward balanced policies that both maximize benefits and safeguard public interests.

During his address to the General Assembly, Shaikh Ahmed bin Isa reaffirmed Bahrain’s call to advance its proposed initiative within this framework. He also expressed his appreciation to the session chair and thanked the State of Kuwait for its warm welcome, generous hospitality, and the high standard of organization of the assembly.
