2.4 Million Trees Planted in 2025

Bahrain is set to celebrate National Environment Day tomorrow, February 4, highlighting the Kingdom’s continued commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development. The annual occasion serves as a key moment to raise public awareness about preserving natural resources for future generations.

His Excellency Eng. Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, Minister of Municipalities and Agriculture, stressed the importance of the celebration, noting that Bahrain places environmental stewardship at the heart of its national priorities. This aligns with the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the directives of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Prime Minister, and reflects Bahrain’s proactive approach to tackling climate change and safeguarding natural resources.

Minister Al Mubarak also praised the Supreme Council for Environment, chaired by His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa, for advancing policies and initiatives that promote sustainability, recycling, waste reduction, and community engagement in environmental protection.

Bahrain’s national afforestation plan, targeting the planting of 3.6 million trees by 2035, remains a cornerstone initiative, supporting carbon neutrality goals by 2060. The Kingdom has already achieved notable progress, planting 2.4 million trees in 2025 alone—67% of the plan’s target.

The “Bahrain Mangrove Initiative”, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, also continues to raise awareness of the crucial role mangroves play in coastal protection and biodiversity. The initiative aims to quadruple the number of mangroves in Bahrain by 2035.

This year, National Environment Day carries the theme “Recycle… Revive”, highlighting the importance of recycling and reusing resources to protect the environment. The Ministry of Municipalities and Agriculture has distributed 300 household recycling centers nationwide and is steadily advancing construction and agricultural waste recycling programs to support afforestation projects and reduce environmental impact.

“National Environment Day is a national opportunity to deepen environmental awareness, strengthen societal commitment to environmental protection, and showcase ongoing government efforts to ensure a sustainable and safe environment for future generations,” said Minister Al Mubarak.
