Suspect Jailed for Posting Offensive Content on Social Media

The Head of the Cybercrimes Prosecution stated that the Public Prosecution received a report from the Cybercrime Department of the Ministry of Interior, following a complaint from a citizen. The complainant said he was personally insulted and targeted with offensive language through a social media account.

The Cybercrime Department investigated the case and identified the account owner. The suspect was arrested and referred to the Public Prosecution.

Once the report was received, the Public Prosecution began its investigation. The suspect was questioned and confronted with the evidence. He admitted to filming and posting the offensive video. As a result, the Public Prosecution ordered his preventive detention pending further investigation before referring him to criminal court.

The Head of the Cybercrimes Prosecution emphasized that the Public Prosecution always respects freedom of opinion and expression, as guaranteed by the constitution and law. However, this freedom cannot be used to harm others’ dignity or violate their rights. She confirmed that the Public Prosecution will continue enforcing the law against any actions that break legal rules or involve abuse on digital platforms.

She added that everyone is urged to act responsibly and follow the legal rules for using social media, protecting individual rights, upholding societal values, and maintaining public order in the digital space.
