BD 24.6 Million Roads Projects Completed in Ninth District, Ministry Confirms
The Ministry of Works has appointed a consultant to review the detailed designs for the development of Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah Street. The project is part of Bahrain’s strategic plan to improve traffic flow, boost economic growth, and increase the road’s capacity and efficiency.
The ministry explained that the project will widen the street from three lanes to four in each direction and construct overpasses at key intersections between Umm Al-Hassam and Al-Nuweidrat. Additional improvements include pedestrian walkways, an upgraded rainwater drainage system, enhanced street lighting, road markings, warning signs, and service roads.
The announcement came in response to a parliamentary question from MP Mohsen Al-Asbol regarding infrastructure projects in the Ninth District of the Capital Governorate.
The ministry also highlighted that it has carried out several road projects in the Ninth District, covering Al-Eker, Al-Ma’amir, and parts of Sitra and East Sitra, with a total value of BD 24.6 million over the past three years of the current legislative term.
Key projects include the construction of East Sitra Street, linking residential areas to the main road network with four lanes in each direction, and connecting it northward to Sheikh Salman Bin Ahmed Al-Fateh Street and southward to the BAPCO Tanks intersection via Street 1.
Other projects completed include repaving Street 23 in Compound 623 in East Al-Eker, upgrading roads in Al-Ma’amir Village (Compound 633), paving dirt roads 2435, 2447, and 2448 in West Al-Eker (Compound 624), and repaving Street 2358 and nearby pathways in Compound 623. The ministry also carried out leveling and asphalt paving on Road 2572 and surrounding areas.
