MPs Urge Government to Fast-Track Employment for Local Doctors

A group of legislators, led by MP Mohammed Al Olaiwi, has formally urged the government to fast-track the employment of newly graduated Bahraini doctors to prevent a "brain drain" and the erosion of vital clinical skills. The proposal highlights an alarming trend where highly qualified medical professionals, many of whom held overseas scholarships and advanced certifications, remain unemployed for years following their graduation.

Mr. Al Olaiwi emphasised that medicine requires continuous hands-on practice, warning that leaving these professionals idle not only demoralises the graduates but also undermines the state's significant investment in their education. The MPs reported being approached daily by unemployed medics who are desperate to serve their country, with some even resorting to unpaid voluntary work at institutions like Salmaniya Medical Complex to keep their skills sharp.

To address this crisis, the legislators are calling for the immediate implementation of a structured and transparent recruitment mechanism. This system would ensure that graduates are integrated into the healthcare workforce through internships, residency programs, or permanent positions immediately after completing their studies. By securing these roles, the government can bolster the national healthcare system and ensure that local talent is not lost to foreign markets or alternative career paths, they argued.
