The High Criminal Court continued hearing the case of a woman accused of causing the death of a four-and-a-halfyear-old boy who was left in her car for hours.
Yesterday, the boy’s father told the bench he was waiving his private right and said the defendant did not intend the outcome. The mother also waived her right.
The child died on 13 October after he was not taken to his kindergarten and remained in the vehicle at midday.
The Public Prosecution said Hamad Town Northern Police Station reported the death.
Investigators went to the scene, impounded the car and examined it. A forensic pathologist at the Forensic Evidence Directorate found the cause of death was asphyxiation inside a vehicle with its windows shut and no ventilation for several hours.
The defendant was questioned and admitted the charge.
She said she transports children to kindergartens and schools without a licence from the competent authorities and does so using her private car, which is not licensed for transport.
She acknowledged she forgot the boy in the car for hours. Prosecutors took statements from the child’s relatives, the kindergarten director and the owner.
On the evidence, the Prosecution ordered that the defendant be remanded and referred to the First High Criminal Court. The case remains before the court.
