Pathways to Successful Commerce

A landmark gathering themed “Bahrain-India: Pathways Towards Successful Commerce” was held yesterday at the Ritz-Carlton Bahrain, bringing together government officials, diplomats, and industry leaders to celebrate growing trade and investment between the two nations.

Arjun Ram Meghwal, India’s Minister of Law and Justice, highlighted the significance of the newly inaugurated Bahrain International Commercial Court, calling it a major milestone for bilateral business. “This court will provide fast and effective dispute resolution for Indian companies operating in Bahrain, fostering confidence and boosting trade between India and the Kingdom,” he said.

Indian Ambassador to Bahrain, Vinod K. Jacob, praised the Kingdom for establishing the court, noting it enhances Bahrain’s international standing. He also underscored the strong economic ties between the two nations. “Our trade last year reached $1.64 billion, and Indian investment in Bahrain has risen by nearly 50% since Prime Minister Modi’s visit in 2019, now standing at $2 billion,” he said. The ambassador further highlighted India as the largest contributor of tourists to Bahrain and welcomed the recent launch of e-visas for Bahraini nationals.

Professor Marike Patrani Paulsson, Secretary General of the Council for International Dispute Resolution, emphasized the natural and enduring relationship between Bahrain and India. “Bahrain is peaceful, inclusive, and tolerant. For India and its diaspora, this makes Bahrain not just a place to work, but a home. With 25% of Bahrain’s population of Indian origin, the bonds are deep and multifaceted,” she said.

Professor Paulsson added that Bahrain is uniquely positioned as a gateway for India to the Gulf, providing opportunities for business, culture, and community engagement.

The event reflected the growing collaboration between Bahrain and India, both in commercial law and broader economic and cultural relations, reinforcing Bahrain’s status as a hub for international commerce in the region.
