US Ambassador Visits Bahrain’s Open Prisons Complex

The visit focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation, exchanging expertise and reviewing the latest developments in Bahrain’s Open Prisons Programme.

Shaikh Khalid welcomed Ambassador Hallett, highlighting the depth of the strategic partnership between Bahrain and the United States and the continued cooperation between the two countries across various fields.

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed the latest developments in the Open Prisons Programme, including programmes and initiatives designed to support beneficiaries and facilitate their reintegration into society. They also discussed areas of mutual interest and opportunities to continue exchanging expertise and benefiting from international best practices.

Ambassador Hallett toured the facilities of the Open Prisons Complex, where she was briefed on the services, facilities and programmes provided to beneficiaries. The tour highlighted the integrated environment aimed at developing their skills and preparing them to return to society and contribute positively to their communities.

The meeting also addressed cooperation with specialised US institutions, including the American Correctional Association (ACA). This cooperation resulted in Bahrain’s Open Prisons Programme receiving ACA accreditation, making it the first entity outside the United States to receive the accreditation.

The accreditation reflects the programme’s commitment to applying advanced international standards and practices in rehabilitation and correctional services.

At the conclusion of the visit, Ambassador Hallett praised the development she observed in the Open Prisons Programme and the services provided to beneficiaries.

Shaikh Khalid stressed the importance of continuing cooperation and expertise-sharing with the US side to further develop programmes and initiatives and strengthen pathways for the reintegration of beneficiaries into society.
