MPs Urge Focus on AI Skills and National Identity
Schools must prepare young Bahrainis for an AI-driven future without losing sight of national identity, MPs have said as students return for the 2026 - 27 academic year.
MP Maryam Al Sayegh said His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s message for the new school year made clear that education was the best way to build the country’s future.
She said the King had placed citizenship, belonging, skills, teachers and the family at the core of learning, making education a shared duty between schools, homes and society.
Ms Al Sayegh said the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for schools, technical education and new methods of teaching was helping prepare students for the years ahead.
She pointed in particular to giving students access to artificial intelligence and innovation tools.
MP Dr Hassan Bukhammas, Chairman of Parliament’s Foreign Affairs, Defence, and National Security Committee said education lay at the root of a country’s progress and should help raise Bahrainis who are proud of their identity and armed with knowledge.
He said the King’s message also placed teachers in a key role, while calling for school curricula to keep pace with modern technology and for closer ties between parents and schools.
Dr Bukhammas said work on school buildings, digital learning and future skills was helping improve what pupils gain from their education.
MP Jalal Kadhem said teachers remained central to building Bahrain’s future, praising their role in raising new generations and instilling knowledge, belonging and a sense of responsibility.
He said the start of the school year had required close work across the Education Ministry to ready schools and provide a suitable environment for students and staff. ‘We renew our confidence in the abilities of our teachers,’ he said. ‘They are partners in building the future.’
The MPs also praised Education Minister Dr Mohammed Juma and ministry staff for preparations ahead of the school year, including readying schools for students.
They congratulated students, teachers, school staff and parents on the start of the academic year and wished them success in the months ahead.
