Climate Resilience Plan for Bahrain’s Water Sector

Minister of Oil and Environment and Special Envoy for Climate Affairs Dr Mohammed bin Mubarak bin Dinah affirmed that the “Enhancing Climate Resilience of the Water Sector in the Kingdom of Bahrain” project represents a leading national initiative aimed at strengthening the Kingdom’s water sector.

The minister made the remarks while opening a workshop showcasing the project's outcomes, which the Green Climate Fund (GCF) supports and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) implements in cooperation.

Dr bin Dinah said the project helped establish an integrated scientific and technical foundation to support planning and decision-making, enhance water security and improve the efficiency of water resource management.

He added that the project’s outcomes align with Bahrain’s national directions for sustainable development and climate change adaptation.

The minister said the workshop marks the culmination of efforts undertaken through the project, which seeks to strengthen the resilience of Bahrain’s water sector against the impacts of climate change, support the implementation of the objectives of the National Water Strategy 2021–2030 and reinforce the principles of integrated water resources management.

Dr bin Dinah also praised the pivotal role played by the Water Resources Council throughout the project's various stages.

He highlighted the council’s active participation in guiding the project’s work, developing its outcomes and supporting the implementation of its activities, which helped ensure the results remained aligned with national priorities and the Kingdom’s water resource management requirements.

During the workshop, participants reviewed several technical and strategic outputs developed under the project.
