The Kingdom of Bahrain has opened the Fourth National Theatre Festival, marking a century of theatrical tradition in the Kingdom and celebrating its enduring passion for the performing arts.
The festival, which began on November 4, coincides with the 100th anniversary of Bahraini theatre, a milestone highlighting Bahrain’s longstanding role as a cultural hub in the Gulf region.
The week-long event features performances by local theatre troupes, workshops, and tributes to the pioneers who helped establish the nation’s theatre movement in the early 20th century.
Vitality
Playwright and director Khalid Al Ruwaie said that the festival reflects the continued vitality of Bahraini theatre.
“This year we celebrate 100 years of theatre in Bahrain, a source of pride for all Bahrainis,” he said. “This fourth edition reaffirms that our stage remains alive and successful,” Al Ruwaie added. Artist Majeda Sultan commended the artistic evolution witnessed over generations and expressed hope that future generations will continue this artistic excellence.
“Art in Bahrain has always been advanced, thanks to the older generations who paved the way and showed us its development,” she said, describing Bahrain as a culturally rich nation and encouraging the public to attend the plays and see our talented actors.
