Bahrain-India Talks Focus on Trade, Security, and Regional Peace

The fifth session of the Bahrain-India Joint Ministerial Committee convened today in the Indian capital, New Delhi, under the co-chairmanship of His Excellency Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain, and His Excellency Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Minister of External Affairs of the Republic of India.

The session began with a warm welcome extended by the Indian Foreign Minister to Dr. Al Zayani and the Bahraini delegation. He congratulated the Kingdom of Bahrain on the success of the Manama Dialogue 2025 and praised Bahrain’s upcoming chairmanship of the Gulf Summit in December, highlighting India’s keen interest in further deepening bilateral cooperation.

Minister Jaishankar also lauded the tangible progress both nations have achieved across multiple fields of partnership, noting that numerous strategic areas remain ripe for exploration and growth. He emphasized India’s appreciation for the enduring support and care extended to the Indian community in Bahrain.

In response, Dr. Al Zayani underscored the profound historical friendship between Bahrain and India, rooted in nearly five millennia of cultural exchange and trade between the ancient civilizations of Dilmun and the Indus Valley. He highlighted that economic ties form a cornerstone of the bilateral relationship, reflecting a shared understanding that regional cooperation is essential to fostering peace, stability, and prosperity.

Dr. Al Zayani further expressed Bahrain’s commitment to strengthening connectivity between India and the wider region, a vision grounded in sustainable peace and dialogue in the Middle East. He pointed to Bahrain’s recent adoption of a Gaza peace plan as a unique opportunity to advance this vision, calling on all parties to exercise restraint, respect the ceasefire, and fulfill their commitments. He reaffirmed that promoting regional peace remains a top priority for Bahrain during its upcoming non-permanent membership on the United Nations Security Council.

The committee explored pathways to expand cooperation in economic, trade, investment, and development sectors, while also discussing collaboration in security, health, culture, education, tourism, space sciences, and other critical fields that serve the interests of both nations.

Additionally, the session addressed ways to enhance political and diplomatic coordination between the two foreign ministries, emphasizing continued mutual support in international forums, and strengthened consultation and collaboration during Bahrain’s 2026-2027 tenure on the UN Security Council.
