Court Upholds 10-Year Jail Term for Asian National in Drug Trafficking Case

The High Criminal Court of Appeals has upheld a lower court’s ruling, sentencing an Asian man to 10 years in prison for drug trafficking. The court also imposed a fine of BD 10,000 and ordered his deportation after completing the sentence.

According to court documents, authorities received information that the suspect was involved in arranging and participating in drug sales. Investigations confirmed the report, and law enforcement traced the suspect through a confidential source. The suspect agreed to sell marijuana for BD 150, with the transaction arranged in the Salmabad area, carried out under police surveillance.

The suspect was apprehended with the payment amount, and security forces seized a quantity of narcotic plants during a search of his residence. He admitted sourcing the drugs from multiple locations in coordination with another individual and acknowledged conducting similar transactions three times before. However, he was caught during the fourth attempt.

The Public Prosecution charged him with selling and possessing marijuana for trafficking in unauthorized circumstances, as well as possessing the drug for personal use without a license. The court sentenced him to 10 years in prison, fined him BD 10,000, ordered the confiscation of the seized drugs, and mandated deportation upon completion of the sentence.
