The Northern Municipal Council has unanimously approved a proposal to install security and speed-enforcement cameras along Janabiyah Highway, covering avenues 91, 92 and 93 through to Madinat Salman, put forward by Third Constituency councillor Mohammed Saad Al Dosari.

The move follows repeated complaints from residents and regular users.

Al Dosari said the stretch between Janabiyah and Madinat Salman has seen rising speeds that put people at risk.

The councillor noted that limited patrol coverage by the General Directorate of Traffic makes offences harder to curb, and that crashes linked to dangerous overtaking and red-light running have been recorded, particularly near Madinat Salman.

He said installing speed cameras would cut crashes and repeat offences and encourage better driver conduct, improving safety for those using the highway.

Crashes

The proposal aims to address recurring crashes, keep a closer watch on the route and keep traffic moving more smoothly amid urban growth and higher population in the area.

Al Dosari added that the measure seeks to protect lives and public and private property, and that councillors backed it unanimously for its direct effect on road safety.
