Ministers Praise International Recognition of Palestine at GCC–France Talks
His Excellency Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, took part in the joint ministerial meeting held today at the Permanent Mission of the French Republic in New York. The meeting brought together Their Highnesses and Excellencies, the Foreign Ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states, and the French Republic, on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The GCC delegation was led by His Excellency Abdullah Ali Al Yahya, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Kuwait and current Chair of the GCC Ministerial Council, while the French side was headed by His Excellency Jean-Noël Barrot, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs. The meeting was also attended by His Excellency Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, GCC Secretary-General.
During the discussions, the ministers reviewed the long-standing friendship between the GCC states and France, highlighting the steady growth of relations across political, economic, and trade sectors. They emphasized the importance of further enhancing cooperation to serve the shared interests and aspirations of both sides.
The meeting also addressed key regional developments and their impact on security and stability, with a focus on strengthening coordination to address current challenges, including the war in Gaza, safeguarding international navigation, and advancing efforts to achieve comprehensive peace in the region.
The ministers welcomed the success of the International Conference on the Two-State Solution, held yesterday at the United Nations Headquarters, and praised the recent recognition of the State of Palestine by several countries. They underlined the importance of continued joint efforts to secure broader international recognition of Palestine.
Also present at the meeting were Ambassador Jamal Fares Al Rowaiei, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations in New York, and Ambassador Khalid Yousif Al Jalahma, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs.
