The First High Criminal Court has sentenced a 24-year-old student to three years in prison and fined him BD50 in damages after convicting him of assaulting another man and causing a permanent disability.

Court documents state the incident occurred on April 15, 2025, following a dispute over prolonged car honking.

The defendant struck the victim in the nose, resulting in a deviated nasal septum and blockage of the left nasal airway.

Injury

A medical report confirmed the injury left the victim with a five per cent permanent disability.

The defendant was also found guilty of deliberately damaging the victim’s car during the altercation.

During earlier hearings, the defendant claimed he was provoked by the victim’s persistent use of the car horn, which he said escalated into the physical confrontation.

Honk

The victim, however, testified that the defendant had been obstructing traffic in Souq Waqif, prompting him to honk.

The court heard that the defendant exited his vehicle, insulted the victim, and punched him in the nose, causing bleeding. He then kicked and damaged the victim’s car windshield.

A police corporal who witnessed the altercation testified that he saw the victim bleeding and confirmed that the defendant had smashed the windshield with his foot.
