His Excellency Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Bin Dainah, Minister of Oil and Environment and Special Envoy for Climate Affairs, reaffirmed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s ongoing commitment to preserving coastal ecosystems through a series of ambitious environmental initiatives.

These include the National Afforestation Plan and the “Bahrain Mangroves” initiative, which aims to quadruple the number of mangrove trees in the Kingdom by 2035.

Dr. bin Dainah’s statement was issued in conjunction with the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem, observed annually on July 26.

Global awareness
The occasion serves to raise global awareness of the ecological importance of mangrove forests and the pressing need to protect them from environmental threats.

The Minister emphasised the vital role mangrove trees play in supporting Bahrain’s national efforts to address climate change, noting that these initiatives align with the country’s broader development goals under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the guidance of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

Dr. Bin Dainah underscored the importance of raising community awareness and encouraging public participation in marine conservation efforts and afforestation projects.

Programs
He highlighted that the Supreme Council for the Environment, chaired by His Highness Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Personal Representative of HM the King and President of the Council, is working in coordination with the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture to implement various mangrove development programs.

These include planting initiatives along Bahrain’s coastlines and rehabilitating ecologically significant areas such as Tubli Bay, in cooperation with relevant stakeholders.

The Minister also reaffirmed Bahrain’s commitment to advancing the goals of the Bahrain Mangrove Initiative, launched by His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
