The Ministry of Works has announced the launch of a comprehensive road network maintenance program, set to begin this summer, targeting several major roads across the Kingdom of Bahrain’s governorates.
The initiative aims to enhance the durability of asphalt surfaces, extend the service life of road infrastructure, and improve overall road quality.
Key objectives include boosting traffic safety, minimising wear and tear, and safeguarding the wellbeing of road users.
Coordination
To ensure smooth implementation, the Ministry confirmed it has coordinated closely with the General Directorate of Traffic at the Ministry of Interior to develop a detailed traffic management plan.
The plan is designed to maintain traffic flow and minimise disruption, prioritising the safety of motorists throughout the maintenance period.
As part of the program, temporary traffic diversions will be put in place on various main roads.
The scope of work includes the maintenance of expansion joints on several key bridges, as well as traffic rerouting related to strategic infrastructure projects.
Program
The Ministry listed major roads included in the program, such as Dry Dock Street, Kuwait Street, and several lanes on Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Street.
Expansion joint maintenance will also be carried out on bridges including Sheikh Hamad Bridge, Mina Salman Left Turn Bridge, and Umm Al Hassam Turn Bridge.
The Ministry stressed that the project aligns with Bahrain’s broader goals of infrastructure modernisation and sustainable development.
It warned that neglecting routine road maintenance could lead to severe damage, requiring costly and time-consuming full reconstruction.
Commitment
Reaffirming its commitment to infrastructure upkeep, the Ministry emphasised its ongoing efforts to maintain roads and streets throughout the Kingdom, which contribute to higher safety standards and improved infrastructure performance.
To mitigate the impact of construction activities, the Ministry stated that all traffic diversions and lane closures will be publicly announced through various media platforms.
Road users are urged to exercise caution, follow posted traffic signs and instructions, and use alternative routes whenever possible to avoid delays.
