Woman gets 5-year jail in drugs case

The High Criminal Court has slapped a Thai woman with five years in prison for selling shabu. She was also given 10 days in jail because she was staying illegally in Bahrain.

The defendant’s illegal activities came to light after a tip-off to the Anti-Narcotic Directorate.

A police officer in plainclothes was assigned to arrest her red-handed, and he managed to convince her to sell drugs to him after he spoke with her on the phone. She told him she would send an Asian man who was using his car as a taxi to deliver the drugs.

When the driver arrived he handed a box to the undercover agent and the latter gave him the money. There was shabu worth BD100 in the box, and police officers pounced on the driver who denied any knowledge of what was inside the box. He said he had received it from the defendant and she was waiting for him in a place to receive the money. He guided them to her house and she was arrested.

Police seized 19 bags of shabu and a digital scale from her apartment. She, however, denied peddling drugs, stating that she was only ‘a consumer’. She said that she received a shipment of drugs from her friend who ordered her to distribute it.
