"They Were More Than Employees; They Were Family": Bapco CEO Mourns Loss in Refinery Leak

Bapco Refining Company (Bapco) has confirmed the tragic loss of two of its employees and the injury of a third following a leak incident at one of its refining units earlier this morning.
According to an official statement, the leak occurred in a safety valve, and the affected employees were on the ground investigating the situation when the accident happened. The third employee is currently receiving intensive care treatment at a hospital.
Bapco’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Abdul Rahman Jawahiri, expressed profound grief over the loss, stating, “They were more than employees; they were family.” He added, “The loss of human life is a tragedy that deeply wounds all of us. May Allah have mercy on their souls and reward them for their service.”
The company extended its heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and conveyed sincere wishes for the speedy recovery of the injured employee.
Immediately following the incident, emergency response teams from the Ministry of Interior and Civil Defense, along with Bapco’s internal safety units, responded swiftly. The alarm was raised at 10:10 AM, and Civil Defense teams arrived within four minutes, confirming the leak and working to contain it. The response involved eight firefighting and rescue vehicles and 28 personnel, under the supervision of Major Colonel Mohammed Abu Al-Fath, Director of Operations at the Civil Defense.
The company has assured the public that the leak has been successfully stopped, the area fully secured, and refinery operations continue without interruption. Bapco emphasized that no material damage occurred and that preventive measures were executed in accordance with the highest international safety standards.
A special investigation committee has been formed to examine the circumstances of the incident thoroughly. The company reaffirmed that its top priority remains the safety of employees and contractors, as well as environmental protection.
Dr. Jawahiri called on the public to rely on official sources for updates and cooperate fully with authorities. “We are committed to supporting the families of our lost colleagues in every possible way,” he concluded.
The names of the deceased and injured have not yet been released.
