Asian registers illegitimate child using wife’s id card
Manama
An Asian man and woman allegedly registered their newborn baby under the man's legitimate wife’s name, according to court files. They were allegedly having an extra-marital affair and the baby was born from this relationship. But the 35-year-old Asian reportedly used his wife's ID card to have the baby formally registered in the country.
The accused said his wife is back in his homeland, and he married the Asian woman secretly without obtaining proper marriage certificates from the authorities. Their crime came to light when the authorities requested the accused's actual wife’s passport after issuing certificate for the baby. According to court files, the suspects accused each other of fraud during investigation.
The woman said in her statement, "I arrived in Bahrain in 2012 and worked as a domestic servant. But I fled from my sponsor’s house after one month. Then I started living in an apartment with a friend, and began working as a maid on hourly basis.”
"After I met him (the male suspect), I moved out to his apartment and stayed with him for two months. After that, I left him, but soon discovered I was pregnant. When I informed him about this, he made the hospital arrangements for my delivery," she added.
She alleged it was her co-accused who registered the baby, while she was still at hospital. However, the male suspect claimed the woman gave his wife's ID to the authorities without his permission. Both are accused of forgery and fraud. They were ordered yesterday to be remanded in custody for 15 days, pending investigations.
