Ankara: Turkish police arrested more than 200 individuals on Tuesday, targeting suspected links to the Islamic State and outlawed far-left groups in advance of the upcoming NATO summit.
The Ankara prosecutor's office confirmed that 209 people were detained, while 32 others remain at large. Among the detained, 185 are suspected of membership in far-left organizations, including the Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C), a group known for previous attacks in Turkey.
These arrests are part of strict security measures implemented ahead of the summit, which will bring together leaders from 32 member states, including US President Donald Trump, on July 7-8.
Furthermore, the Ankara governor’s office has officially banned all public demonstrations in the capital from June 28 until the summit concludes, as authorities work to ensure safety during the high-profile gathering.
