An attempted armed robbery at a currency exchange shop was foiled after staff triggered an alarm system, forcing the suspect to flee before completing the crime.

A man wearing a black face mask initially entered the shop posing as a customer and asked about exchange rates for the Pakistani rupee. The situation escalated when he was asked to present identification and remove his mask; he then pulled out a knife and threatened a 30-year-old female employee through the service window.

The suspect attempted to force staff to place cash into a bag, but both employees managed to take cover and activate the alarm, prompting him to escape the scene.

Security camera footage showed the suspect brandishing the knife and attempting to carry out the robbery before fleeing once the alarm was triggered. Investigations later led to his arrest, where he was found in possession of the same clothing used during the incident.

The case is scheduled to be heard before the First Major Criminal Court on June 30.
