Ramli Water Tanks Leak Within Five Years

Leaking water tanks are wasting water, pushing up bills and spilling onto roads in Ramli Housing, with some failing in under five years despite a 10-year warranty.

The Northern Municipal Council voted for every tank in the housing scheme to be replaced in one go, rather than forcing families to chase repairs home by home.

The proposal came from council member Abdullah Ashoor, who said complaints had mounted over tanks made by a Saudi company.

‘These tanks come with a 10-year warranty, yet residents are reporting leaks before even five years have passed,’ he said.

Mr Ashoor said the leaks were wasting water, adding to household electricity and water bills and leaving pools around homes.

Water was also reaching roads and public facilities, he said, raising the risk of damage and extra repair work.

For residents, getting a faulty tank changed can mean another long wait.

Mr Ashoor said families had already called the maintenance hotline or filed requests through the Housing and Urban Planning Ministry’s website, only to wait for contractors to come out, inspect the tank and replace it.

‘People should not have to keep filing separate requests and waiting for a contractor each time,’ he said. ‘The problem needs to be dealt with across Ramli Housing as a whole.’

The council agreed to write to Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Minister Wael Al Mubarak, asking him to raise the case with the Housing and Urban Planning Ministry.

It wants all water tanks in Ramli Housing replaced as one scheme, with residents spared the need to file individual requests.
