Tokyo, Japan: East Japan Railway has officially launched a unique commuter trial, deploying automated trash cans designed to actively navigate massive passenger crowds at one of the world's most high-traffic transit locations.

The live experiment is taking place at Shinjuku Station, which proudly holds the official record as the world's busiest rail hub. The massive transportation terminal accommodates over 2.7 million daily passengers, creating intense and constant sanitation challenges for station operators.

To help tackle these logistical hurdles, JR East has introduced three automated, slow-moving bins equipped with distinct technical features.
