Ankara: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has urged US President Donald Trump to continue diplomatic negotiations with Iran, citing the importance of easing tensions between the two countries.

During a phone call, Erdogan expressed Turkey's support for peace efforts and stated that Ankara will keep working with the US, Iran, and regional mediators such as Pakistan and Qatar. Turkey has consistently called for an end to the violence and offered to act as an intermediary.

The request comes as US-Iran talks stopped, and Iran has vowed to take a more offensive military stance. The two presidents also discussed the Gaza conflict, bilateral relations, and a new defence pact between Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan.

Erdogan expressed concerns over growing Israeli attacks in Gaza, as the second phase of Trump's peace plan was set to begin.
