Jordan’s King Abdullah to visit China from August 18

Beijing: Jordan's King Abdullah II will go on a week-long state visit to China on August 18, at the request of Chinese President Xi Jinping. The visit, which lasts until August 24, aims to deepen political and economic connections between the two countries.

King Abdullah is set to meet with Xi Jinping, Premier Li Qiang, and other senior Chinese officials, with discussions expected to cover bilateral relations as well as significant regional and international issues. An economic ministry delegation will accompany the king, and both parties are expected to sign cooperation agreements and memoranda of understanding.

He will also visit Shanghai and Shenzhen, and he will meet with Chinese business leaders to discuss potential chances for further investment and economic collaboration. The visit comes amid Jordan is dealing with increased regional tensions and economic challenges as a result of the Middle East conflict.

This will be King Abdullah's eleventh visit to China since taking up the crown in 1999, and his first since 2015. China will become Jordan's greatest trading partner with bilateral trade exceeding $6.7 billion.
