Canada Faces One Of Its ‘Most Intense’ Wildfires

Montreal: Canada is confronting one of the most intense wildfire seasons in its history, Prime Minister Mark Carney confirmed. Barely halfway through summer, nearly 1,000 active fires have burned three million hectares of forest, an area as large as Belgium, affecting virtually all provinces and territories.
The largest active blaze in Ontario has forced widespread local evacuations and sent thick smoke drifting to the US East Coast. While recent rainfall slightly slowed the overall spread, more than 200 fires remain out of control across the nation.
In response, over 5,000 firefighters, 300 water tankers, and troops from the Canadian Armed Forces have been mobilized. International support from the United States and France has also arrived to aid exhausted crews in northwestern Quebec.
Experts emphasize that dense boreal forests make extinguishing remote lightning fires nearly impossible. Authorities are therefore prioritizing defense efforts around populated villages and critical infrastructure as severe drought and low rainfall persist.
