Seoul: South Korean authorities arrested a YouTuber alleged of using artificial intelligence to create evidence and spread false claims against actor Kim Soo-hyun, in a case that has sparked national concern about the abuse of AI technology.
Kim Se-ui, a YouTuber, reportedly stated that Kim Soo-hyun was in a relationship with late actress Kim Sae-ron while she was a minor. According to investigators, the claims were supported by manipulated chat records and AI-generated audio recordings, which were later shown to be fabricated.
Police claim that the content was purposefully posted through the YouTuber's channel in order to harm the actor's reputation and create financial advantage. According to authorities, forensic studies revealed that audio samples ascribed to Kim Sae-ron had been manipulated using AI technology, and messaging screenshots had been edited to fraudulently link the actor to the accusations.
The incident had severe effect on Kim Soo-hyun's career, resulting in the loss of sponsorship deals and the postponement of key projects. After a court hearing in Seoul, a judge approved the arrest warrant, citing concerns that the suspect would destroy evidence or flee. Kim Se-ui has denied all claims and said he will challenge the allegations.
