US eyes months-long Iran blockade
The United States may be able to sustain a naval blockade aimed at Iran for several months if required, a White House official said on Wednesday after a meeting between Donald Trump and oil industry leaders.
The meeting, which took place at the White House on Tuesday and was first reported by Axios, examined actions already implemented to stabilise global oil markets, along with potential strategies to maintain the blockade while reducing its impact on US consumers.
According to the official, discussions included measures introduced by President Trump to ease pressure on oil markets and options to extend the blockade for an extended period if necessary, while keeping domestic economic effects under control.
Authorities have not yet publicly outlined the full scope or expected duration of any maritime restrictions connected to Iran.
