Islamabad: Senior US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner have arrived in Islamabad for high-stakes negotiations with Iran, as efforts intensify to stabilise the fragile ceasefire in the Middle East.

The two officials are part of a broader US delegation engaging in talks aimed at easing tensions and exploring a longer-term diplomatic framework following a temporary pause in hostilities.

The discussions come at a critical time, with the truce already under strain due to ongoing regional tensions, including Israeli military actions in Lebanon.

Reports citing US intelligence sources also suggest that China is preparing to supply air defence systems to Iran, potentially complicating the negotiation process.

The talks in Islamabad, facilitated by Pakistan, are seen as a key opportunity to prevent further escalation and lay the groundwork for sustained dialogue between Washington and Tehran.

US President Donald Trump, commenting ahead of the meetings, wished the delegation well and reiterated Washington’s intent to ensure stability in key regional routes, including the Strait of Hormuz.

The outcome of these talks is expected to be crucial in shaping the next phase of the US-Iran engagement.
