Washington DC: U.S. President Donald Trump said a “good deal” would be straightforward, emphasizing that preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons is the top priority, calling it “99% of it,” while noting regime change was never a formal condition. Addressing concerns over the Strait of Hormuz, he added that the waterway would reopen, suggesting economic realities would push it in that direction. Trump also pointed out that the U.S. does not heavily rely on the route, saying other countries that depend on it would step in to help maintain access.
The Strait of Hormuz, a narrow passage linking the Persian Gulf to global markets, has long been a flashpoint, with tensions rising during conflicts involving Iran and Western powers, including during the Tanker War and more recent standoffs. Trump expressed confidence that despite challenges, the strait would reopen fairly soon, underscoring his belief that strategic and economic realities would prevail.
