Canberra: An Iranian strike has landed near a military airbase in the United Arab Emirates where Australian troops are stationed, causing minor damage but no casualties, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese confirmed.

The projectile struck a road just outside the Al Minhad airbase, a key facility hosting more than 100 Australian personnel. The impact triggered a fire that damaged parts of an accommodation block and a medical facility within the base.

Albanese said it was unclear whether the strike involved a missile or a drone, and he could not confirm if the base itself was the intended target. He emphasised that Australia is not at war, despite the escalating regional tensions.

“The Iranian regime is engaging in random attacks right across the region,” Albanese said, describing the broader security situation as volatile.

The incident marks the second time the Al Minhad base has been hit in recent weeks, following an earlier drone strike at the start of the ongoing conflict, raising concerns over the safety of foreign military personnel in the region.
