Bridge collapse: 6 people killed, several tourists swept away.

A fun outing turned tragic on Sunday afternoon when an old iron bridge collapsed over the Indrayani River near Kundmala village in Pune’s Maval area, claiming the lives of at least six tourists. Several others are still missing, according to local reports.

The incident occurred around 3:30 PM, as dozens of visitors gathered to enjoy the scenic monsoon views — a popular seasonal attraction in the region. Eyewitnesses say roughly 25 to 30 people were on the bridge at the time of the collapse and were swept away by the river's strong currents.

Search and rescue operations are currently underway, with teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) racing against time to find survivors.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed his concern in a post on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “There has been an incident of bridge collapse in Maval. I have spoken to the Divisional Commissioner, Tehsildar, and Police Commissioner. Some people have been injured and taken to the hospital. Some are still trapped. The NDRF team is on its way.”
