Luxembourg Rescue Helicopter Clips Tree During Emergency Response
A Luxembourg Air Rescue helicopter narrowly avoided disaster on Friday afternoon after striking a tree while en route to a traffic accident near Nothum and Bavigne in the country’s northwest.
The H145 D-3 model aircraft, dispatched to assist at the scene of a serious car crash, collided with a tree around 5:00 p.m. during flight. In response, the pilot performed a hard landing on a nearby road, a maneuver that ensured the safety of all onboard. None of the four crew members sustained injuries, and no patient was being transported at the time of the incident.
Emergency Sparked by Dangerous Overtake
The helicopter had been responding to a road accident that unfolded when a vehicle attempted to overtake a truck, causing an oncoming car to swerve and another to follow suit in avoidance. Both vehicles slid down a nearby slope in the process.
Three individuals were injured in the crash and were transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Investigations Underway
Authorities have launched an investigation into both the car accident and the helicopter's mid-air collision with the tree. While details are still emerging, the swift and controlled response by the helicopter pilot is being praised for preventing a potential tragedy.
Luxembourg Air Rescue Remains Operational
Despite the incident, Luxembourg Air Rescue (LAR) remains fully operational, continuing to provide critical emergency medical and air rescue services throughout the region. The organization is expected to cooperate fully with aviation safety authorities during the ongoing investigation.
